Inescapable Shadows

is an 18+, realistic-style Yakuza visual novel about love, loyalty, and bad life choices in modern Tokyo.

You start out as a student who gets sucked into the darker parts of Japan. You get mixed up in their dealings, in their fights, and eventually in their beds. In the end, you decide where you stand and who you call an ally.

This download is a free demo, not the full game. It covers the opening act, introduces the main cast, and gives you a real taste of the romance, yakuza politics, and choice system. The full game expands on the plot with four more complete acts leading to the full completion of the story. The full playthrough is around 5 hours.

The full game is complete. I'm going through OCD polishing and tweaking phase. The planned full release is Q1 2026.

What to expect:

• A story-heavy visual novel that prioritizes characters and story over H scenes. (Though it has some very nice H scenes :) )
  
• An un-filtered Japanese setting with yakuza politics, deep romance, action, drama, and sex.
  
• Fully fleshed-out character development and growth.
  
• Choices and points that change scenes, lines, images, and more. Gives you proper rewards for your choices and routes. Though it may not be obvious at the time, a lot of your choices affect the outcome of scenes much later on.
  
• Fully built minigames including blackjack, an escape room, and more.
  
• Multiple endings
• A fire soundtrack (IMO)

About me:

I'm just someone who loves VNs. I learned everything from day 1 while creating Inescapable Shadows. It was a really fun and exciting experience but also frustrating. As my skills improved, I would have to constantly go back and polish earlier parts of the game to match. The end result is a VN that I'm extremely proud of and I hope that you will enjoy it as well!

How it was made:

I want to be honest about how this project is built.

I'm just a fan. I don’t have a game dev background. I taught myself RenPy, 3D modeling, python, music composition, and basically everything else needed to make a VN. I've spent months writing the script (400+ pages of dialogue), coding (20,000+ lines of code), rendering (1,000+ renders and CGs), and polishing over and over in my spare time.

I wanted to produce a polished VN that's ready to enjoy out of the box. That means putting my own time and money into it: lots of learning, licenses, 3D models, plugins, singers, sound effects, tools, etc. before asking for even a penny.  The result is a finished, complete, VN and not something that sits in production.

To make my dream a reality, I did use AI tools as part of my workflow. I also did spend a lot of time learning how and doing it myself, choosing, editing, and tweaking things so they fit the characters, mood, and story.

If you only want games that never touched AI, I get it. I'd rather you know that now than feel tricked later. If you're okay with a fan with a dream doing whatever they can to get their passion project across the finish line, I hope you'll at least give the demo a try and see if the writing and atmosphere are for you.
